Solar Powered High Speed Rail System – Belgium

by Seedorama Staff on October 25, 2010

High-speed rail systems are a great way of transportation that has taken Europe and Asia by storm. While the US has shown some interest, many environmentalists have shown disapproval due to their carbon emissions.

Clean energy company Enfinity is taking a step towards green rail systems though. In collaboration with the Belgium rail line, Enfinity hopes to develop a solar powered high-speed rail system for the firm Infrabel.

The first step in the process is adding 16,000 solar panels to a rail tunnel that connects Paris to Amsterdam. The project will almost be a test subject, trying to gain data of whether the project can be applied to the masses.

  • Almost a commentator

Will "almost be a test subject"? So it isn't quite a test subject, but almost? I don't get it.

  • That is SO cool! Europeans are so innovative!
