“Art of Farming” Auction Brings In $250k

by Seedorama Staff on September 27, 2010

When one thinks of Sotheby’s, most think rare art, antiques, and collectibles. But Brent Ridge of Planet Green’s ‘The Fabulous Beekman Boys’ hosted an auction, which sold 100k worth of – vegetables.

“I’ve never sold some of these things,” auctioneer Jamie Niven told the NY Times. “I’m amazed.”

Some proceeds obviously went to Sotheby’s, but also to some local charities and farmers. At the sustainable dinner, attendees could trade cash for a bag of veggies. In total, the event brought in $250k.
