For many, especially in the South, it was a winter that was unexpected to say the least. The daunting season was not only bitter cold, but also rained down snow relentlessly on our precious lawns that we care so much for.
As Spring has turned to Summer, you might still see patches of dead grass from the grueling winter weather. But university professor Dr. James A. McAfee has some comforting news for homeowners.
With temperatures starting to climb, McAfee believes the problem should fix itself. In the next few weeks, you should see new grass overtake the dead fescue. If that isn’t the case, you might need to resod or reseed.
But what’s on all our minds is how to prevent this from happening in the future. McAfee believes that if you maintain your lawn year round, rather than just in peak months, you have a better chance or surviving the winter without devastating effects. Water, cut, and fertilize as much as possible.
